This past week has been a busy one for Elder Wilson and me. We have met a few Iban member families. Ibans are one group of the native Diyak people and they only live in east Malaysia. The Ibans were formerly the "headhunter" group of the past. Many of the Ibans live in Kampongs, a village where native people live together, often in long houses connected to one another. (See picture below.)
These two member families are from the Metang Branch where Elder Wilson and I have been assigned to assist with member leadership development when we are not doing humanitarian work. Both families were very gracious to have us in their homes. Both of these families were very proud to show us their pictures of having taken their families to the Manila Temple to be sealed.
We also visited a Kampong School where we may be able to help with a bathroom remodel/update project. The school has great needs as the bathroom facility has leaking sewage pipes resulting in unsanitary conditions. The school also had numerous broken fans and electrical problems; no working faucet in the kitchen: mattresses that were completely worn out: and other needs. The school would like LDS Charities to assist them in improving the living condtions for the students. The students typically live at the school and just return home to their families for holidays. The children were so friendly to us. The picture below is a typical long house where the Ibans live. These long houses are all over east Malaysia.
